“Sculptors, poets, painters, musicians–they’re the traditional purveyors of Beauty. But it can as easily be created by a gardener, a farmer, a plumber, a careworker.” ~Charles De Lint, The Onion Girl
The simple boiled egg. That smelly thing you got teased for having brought to school in your lunchbox as a kid. Remember? I do. But I loved a boiled egg. Oh yes, I did. And so do my kids.
To save them from the merciless teasing by their peers, I ventured to make the boiled egg in the lunch box “cool.”
I ordered these egg molds from allthingsforsale.com. And I’m telling you, they are simple to use, and the boiled egg finally gets the attention it deserves! A little car with a wee driver’s head poking out the window? I mean, if that isn’t cute, I don’t know what is!
I will admit when I first got my egg molds, I had no idea how to use them. The directions were all in Japanese. After a few youTube videos, I had it down. I have put together a photo tutorial for you so you don’t have to go digging around the internet to find directions.
STEP TWO…The egg will feel like it’s too big to fit, but if you wiggle and stretch and slowly close the lid, you shouldn’t have any huge disasters…maybe a crack here and there, but nothing major.
STEP FOUR…That’s it! If you make the eggs before you go to bed, feel free to leave them in the molds (but out of the water) until morning. They will be just fine.
It was so satisfying to see that boiled egg finally get it’s well-deserved praise…
*The little “driver” food pick was purchased here at allthingsforsale.com. *The two-sided bento box was purchased here at casabento.com and it is one of our most used bento boxes for kid lunches.
The puzzle sandwich in this bento was made with this cutter from allthingsforsale.com and is ALWAYS requested by my kids. They like putting the puzzle together once they are at school…Now go out there and give the boiled egg a fighting chance!
Thanks for stopping by,
